In the back of a car in the middle of the night, somewhere between London and Great Yarmouth, halfway over a humped back bridge and sitting on a mountain of empty coat hangers and half-finished Red Bull cans, we managed to conduct an interview with two of hardcore’s hardest working headliners, DJ Dizzy and MC Spenno.
Racing up and down the country every single weekend to spread the love and the music, Dizzy and Spenno are most definitely men on a mission. Spenno particularly has been a major tour de force behind the revitalized Hardcore Euphoria party brand, which after a long-forgotten hiccup last year has come storming back onto the circuit with some immense line-ups and legendary parties.
Which brings us round very nicely to the reason for our 60 mph chat, Extreme Euphoria vs Hardcore Euphoria at Heaven on Friday November 16th. Featuring the likes of Billy ‘Daniel’ Bunter, Lisa Pin-Up, Geos Crew, Overlode N Ecsta C, Nick Sentience, Cally Gage, Technikal, MC Whizzkid and of course Dizzy and Spenno themselves, it’s looking like a complete and utter sell-out event.
Yours truly clung like a bitch to the seat belt, pulled out pen and pad and got the low-down…

Firstly Dizzy, you seem to have burst on to the UK Hardcore scene in 2007! How did you manage to secure a prime time set at Hardcore Euphoria back in May?
Dizzy: It was a very hard. I had to pretend to be an Ipswich fan for the best part of a year and constantly feed Jordon panini’s and Red Bulls to get this booking >;D It was one I’ll never forget... the crowd was amazing and I loved every minute!
So you have Spenno to thank then?
Dizzy: Yea the guy’s a legend, we have been working on a few tracks in the studio and generally been touring the UK, he’s been a major influence in pushing me forward. I have had some wicked times and more to come with this guy… top banana!
Spenno: I decided to put Dizzy on at prime time so that he could show case his skills to the London ravers! I’ve always rated Ed’s skills on the 1&2’s, I thought he showed a great attitude. Having a good attitude in music will ALWAYS get you places.
So Dizzy how’s it feel to be part of Hardcore Euphoria?
Dizzy: It’s a wicked opportunity, thanks to Hel’s and Jordon, it’s amazing to be part of the team, big ups to you guys!
Spenno it’s been a big year for you. You seem to be on every flyer recently, what’s made you step up a gear?
Spenno: I felt I had to. I was 27 a couple of weeks ago, and I feel it’s now or never. The competition is hotter than ever, so to even keep at the level I’m at, I have had to step my game up!
And what are your views on the London “scene”!
Spenno: To be honest with you, it’s better than ever. The London Crew are some of the most dedicated in the country, it’s great seeing the same people every single week! I truly love ‘em to bits! Big ups the London Crew ;)

You two have both been in the studio and collaborated on some tunes. Tell all…
Spenno: We did ‘Waiting Forever’ which Slipmatt signed to Universal, and also “U got 2 Know” by Capella, which was an official remix! Both featured on albums.
Dizzy: Also we get on well in the studio! Even if Jordon does insist on trancey riffs the whole time! I usually win, as he gives in for the quiet life!
Spenno: It’s all bout the Riffs Tittyboy!
Dizzy, you promoted “Statik” in Cambridge, is there any future plans for this event?
Dizzy: Well for the moment I’ve had to put the Statik events on hold, but I am working alongside 'The Decks Room' guys and there is talk of bringing 'Statik' back in 2008... so all I can say at the moment is watch this space...
What are both of your views on the last Hardcore Euphoria?
Dizzy: The last Hardcore Euphoria event was probably the most high energy party I’ve been to this year... the atmosphere was amazing!
Spenno: The May event was amazing! To fill Ministry of Sound and keep every one rocking at the end of a bank holiday was awesome…..I genuinely wanted to give the London Regulars a good hardcore party, and one they would remember… I believe we did that…

Do both of you still work full time?
Spenno: I do… I love my week day job, it’s like having two jobs for me, I love keeping busy!
Dizzy: Five days a week in an office, gotta pay the bills...
Dizzy, who is 'doing it' for you on the production front at the mo?
Dizzy: Well there’s a few at the moment but Gammer stands out a mile though, his production is always evolving and his tracks just get better a better!!!
*Spenno sings “Getaway” (badly!)*
Ok Spenno, tell us something funny about Dizzy?
Spenno: Me and Ed once went to a house party, Ed got drunk, threw up over his t-shirt, and went straight back to sleep! Sorry dude, but it had to be told!
Dizzy, what do you think of Spenno’s driving?
Dizzy: haha... he always get us there on time, although sometimes I have to pull the seat out of my ass when we get there!
Spenno: You teeetboy!
What do you two get up to during the week? Any time for girls/drinking etc etc?
Dizzy: There’s always something to be done on the music front, I don’t get as much chill time as I’d like... there’s always time for a swift beer and flirt up though!
Spenno: Always time for getting amongst it, don’t you worry bout that!
Why did you decide to make Billy Bunter resident?
Spenno: Simply because Dan is a “Rave” DJ who can read a crowd. He was instrumental in kicking off Happy Hardcore in London in the first place. You don’t sell 140,000 Hardcore albums in a year without being a good artist! People want to see Bunter, therefore he is my resident.

Have you got any favourite sayings at the moment that might catch on?
Spenno: “Whaaaaaaat’s eeet Sayeeennn???
Spenno: The Classics are still the best, Foggy is a legend!
Spenno: “Sweestons” Bang” “Getting Amongst it” etc etc!
Dizzy: Spenno’s the man for new sayings... lol
It’s pretty obvious that you two love UK Hardcore, why does it still appeal to you so much?
Dizzy: Hardcore’s always been a big part of my life since the age of 14 but its really smashing it at the moment, its sounding really fresh and with all the up and coming producers out there putting different twists on it, it’s really exciting!
Spenno: I love Hardcore more than anything in the world, because of the rush of playing to a crowd obviously, and I love the pace, and euphoric feel to the music. However, most importantly, the people are just amazing! London ravers at the moment in particular have given me a lot of support, and I wanna repay them by giving them a great event! London Crew I love ya!!!!!
Lastly, what can you tell the ravers about the event on 16th November?
Dizzy: Trust me you don’t want to miss the Hardcore Euphoria experience, it’s gonna be a night to remember! Get you tickets now before they sell out!
Spenno: Come to Hardcore Euphoria, no bull shit, or hype, just good times guaranteed! We have legends such as Bunter n Marley, and a super rare appearance in London from Whizzkid! Bring it on… See you on the dance floor!
